What Makes Me Tick

I’m an Artist/Maker/Innovator who experiences pure JOY when working with my hands and creating from my soul. Ever since I can remember, I’ve had a creative energy bubbling up inside me - the need to experiment, to build, to take things apart, to make marks and play with colour.

Growing up in Toronto, I was inspired by my dad - an artist/cartoonist/graphic designer - who shared with me his love of tools, art supplies and creative experimentation. In 2010, I discovered the excitement of working with encaustic medium and immediately fell madly in love - it was so tactile and versatile - and there were tools, lots of awesome tools!

I absolutely love the unlimited freedom when intuitively playing and experimenting in my studio! I'm currently working with richly pigmented mediums, creating vibrant Encaustic Mixed Media artwork inspired by the wonders of nature and the textures of urban life.

I share my passion, expertise and joy of learning with others through teaching art workshops. My fundamental belief is that all people - no matter their age - deserve a safe, fun and nurturing space where they can let their inner artist out to play.

  • When viewing my most recent artwork, at first glance it seems quite straight forward. Upon a closer look, one discovers that there’s much more going on beyond the surface. Layer upon layer peek through, creating curiosity for the viewer to get closer, to look deeper, to discover the magic below. My goal is to create unique, engaging and thought provoking artwork inspired by the wonders of nature and the textures of urban life, quite often combining both to add underlying tension within my work.

I go about this by intuitively playing and experimenting - injecting my wonky, whimsical, authentic self into all my creative adventures. I am currently combining poetry and mixed media, taking inspiration from one to create the other, the two becoming completely intertwined. Sometimes I begin by playing with words, conjuring up images reflecting my inspiration and emotions. Other times it starts with layer upon layer of encaustic (molten wax) combined with unique papers, photos, sketches, marks, and more. Once the depth and magic is present within the physical piece, poetic words begin to flow from within me.
